Beholding the Lord
Following are a list of 6 topics you can use to behold the Lord. In this season of prayer it is our desire that you come away from the demands of life, even the demands of intercession and simply look to and at the Lord. Two traditional methods not mentioned below are meditating on the Names of God and reading the Scripture slowly to see and hear the Lord.
At times it is somewhat difficult to combine planned preparation and spontaneous creativity. In doing so, in combining planning with creativity, we can have a deeper season of encounter. I say that so that if this is your first attempt at beholding the Lord and it seem rather dull, do not give up. Keep seeking to add the disciplines with your spontaneous prayer life.
I offer this pathway. Take each topic and practice it for 10 minutes. If you are in fellowship with the Lord, stay longer. If you complete the list and still have more time you desire to encounter God with, repeat the cycle or use one of the two methods mentioned above.
A time to value the Lord as Lord
Lordship implies Master, Director, Ruler, Judge, and Authority
A time to rest in the presence of the Lord and trust
Use your body, just sitting with God, as a way to have fellowship
Use a simple prayer like “I love you God” , or “Lord you are beautiful”
A time to listen
Use a journal to write even your random thoughts
If your mind drifts off into the business of life simply return to focusing on the Lord
Often “singing” a childhood song to the Lord helps people listen. “Jesus loves the little children”
“Give me oil in my lamp”, “Rejoice in the Lord Always”
A time of thankfulness of what God has done in your life
Make a list
You can start with yourself and work outward socially to you family, friends, work, church
A time to list God’s previous previsions (through the work of Jesus and in your life)
This is a more specific focus than the one you just did
Think of specific events, gifts, knowledge or acts of grace God has given you.
God’s gifts often come through His body, list both God and others
A time to simply hope
